Bhubaneswar: Adding more sparkle to Diwali celebrations, the Odisha government has decided to implement the 7th pay commission’s recommendation for its employees.

The government has set up a fitment committee to finalize the modalities of implementation.

“I am happy to announce that the State government will implement the 7th pay commission recommendations. A fitment committee is formed for working out the modalities. This will benefit the State government employees and pensioners,” said Naveen Patnaik.

The pay commission’s recommendation will benefit about 4 lakh state government employees and more than 3 lakh pensioners.

The 7th Pay Commission headed by Justice A K Mathur had recommended a 23.55 per cent overall hike in pay, allowances and pensions for central government employees with effect from January 1 this year.

An official estimation has pegged the pay revision requirement at about Rs 5,500 crore annually. Currently, the state government dishes out Rs 29,836 crore annually towards salaries and pensions.
