In an attempt to streamline the PhD entrance test, Rajiv Gandhi Technical University (RGTU) has made it mandatory for candidates to get the application forms forwarded by their guide. The university will hold PhD entrance test in December.

When contacted, RGTU’s vice-chancellor, Prof Piyush Trivedi said the decision would help both the students and the university. “After clearing the entrance test, students look for a guide wasting their time. This extends the completion time of Ph D,” Trivedi said.

“Candidates used to submit the names of the guides whenever they find them after clearing the entrance test. In such a situation, the process continues for a long time,” he added.

Prof Trivedi added that on several occasion, students presented the names of the guide who were not even eligible.

RGTU is the first university in the state which has been conducting PhD entrance test for the past two years.
