An Ultrabook for under Rs 50,000? Well, that is something rare in today’s slim computer era . Asus Technology seems to do just this with its new S Series of devices.

But then you read the specs in detail and a small detail captures your attention – “weighing only 2.4 kg”. Now, that is one ultra heavy Ultrabook.

To put things in perspective, it is about double the weight of the Zenbook from the same Taiwanese manufacturer. Thankfully, it is also half the price.

The S56CA-XX030R with a 3rd generation Intel i3 Core processor is priced at Rs 46,999, while the S56CA-XX056R costs Rs 52,999 because of the more powerful i5 processor.

Call it whatever you want but there is no denying the fact that there are some interesting specs on the laptop. A 15.6″ HD LED Backlight Glare display, a hybrid SSH+HDD storage to ensure instant resume and 13 days standby power.

Inside the brushed aluminum hairline texture, you will even find an optical drive. All the more reason to not to call it an Ultrabook. But then it is their call.

Thankfully, at 21mm it is thin by the latest stocky Ultrabook standard and certainly slim for a 15.6″ laptop.

Asus also launched its F series laptop which strangely seems as thin and as light (or heavy) as their Ultrabook. This one will run on Intel’s 2nd generation processor and is priced at a very affordable Rs 35,999.

The laptop features IceColl Technology to reduce heat and SonicMaster Lite for good audio performance.
